2. Star Trek 3 Won't Focus On Klingons Or Romulans; Will Deal With Five-Year Mission In Space
Given that Star Trek Into Darkness was essentially a sort of half-remake of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan - one that p*ssed off a lot of fans - it makes sense that Star Trek 3 will mine new ground in an attempt to win favour with long-time Star Trek lovers. Justin Lin, the man taking over the franchise from J.J. Abrams (who has moved onto Star Wars, of all things - what a traitor!), had this to say:
"Its all new and fresh. The Klingons, Romulans and other species are great, but its time to go further. It has been fun to focus on creating whole new worlds and species."
Yes, Star Trek 3 - which has been penned by cast member Simon Pegg - purports to finally take the iconic characters of the franchise on their "five-year mission in space," a venture that has always provided the backbone of the series. So no Klingons and no Romulans this time around - just new, original ideas. Sounds almost too good to be true!
