10 Movie Villain Twists Everyone Hated
4. Dr. David Banner - Hulk
Ang Lee's 2003 adaption of Hulk often takes a kicking from fans, but at the time of release those same fans were excited to see the first version of the character NOT to be a bodybuilder in a bad wig. Trailers built the excitement and it was a hot ticket on the week of release.
While the movie doesn't hold up in terms of CGI, it's easy to forget this was one of the first movies to really go for a comic book look and feel. If you can look past the dodgy Hulk, then there was almost a decent movie here.
What really ruined Hulk was the decision to make Dr. David Banner, ostensibly the character from the TV show the surprise villain, and then cast Nick Nolte in his greatest "Hobo" look.
Not only did the reveal of David fall flat, but they also gave him a Hulk poodle and allowed Nolte to attempt King Lear on what appeared to be a stage during the finale. Nothing about this twist worked when you had ready made villains like General Thunderbolt Ross and Glen Talbot, who had already set himself up to be the big bad.
Hulk was ultimately smashed by this twist villain, most people remember Nolte and his dogs rather than the good parts of this movie.
