10 Movie Villain ‘Twists’ We Saw Coming A Mile Off
9. Edwin - Predators
Pretending that Predator 2 (and those vs. movies that-must-not-be-named) never happened, Predators gives us the answer to the one of the big questions of life: what would an Aliens-style sequel to the Schwarzenegger action classic look like? Brought to life by producer Robert Rodriguez, the franchise reboot was a great throw-back to the action sci-fi of the eighties and showed a creativity that was absent from the franchise since the 1987 original.
The movie has a group of deadly human characters, each the master of their respective killing field, literally dropped onto an alien planet to serve as game for a gang of Predators. A smart extension of the original's set-up, the gang is a diverse mix of different action tropes, although you get the feeling one character is being less than honest. Look at the line-up; a mercenary, a sniper, a Yakuza, a cartel enforcer, a prisoner from death row, a commando, two soldiers and an ordinary doctor. One of those stands out (and it isn't Adrien Brody as an action hero).
Yeah, from the moment he starts repeating he's just a regular guy it's pretty clear that Edwin is going to end up being the most dangerous killer of the lot. Revealed in the film's final act to be an all-out psychopath, Topher Grace plays the villain well (much better than he did Venom-ified Eddie Brock), although the geeky/curious/definitely good doctor could have done with being toned down.
