10 Movie Villains So Dumb They Deserved To Fail

After Sauron's physical form was destroyed in The Lord of the Rings, he transferred his spirit to The One Ring. Realising Sauron's influence over Middle-Earth would never stop until the ring was destroyed, Frodo vows to throw it into the volcano, Mount Doom, where the cursed artifact was forged.

To ensure Frodo never reaches his destination, Sauron dispatches thousands of orcs, wild men, oliphaunts, and countless other monsters on the hobbit and his kin.

Even though it sounds like Sauron has taken serious countermeasures to emerge triumphant, there's one huge flaw in his plan. If Mount Doom is the only place where The One Ring can be destroyed, why isn't it protected? With Sauron's unlimited army, surely he could've spared a few goblins, wargs, or a Nazgûl to secure the volcano?

Better still, why does Mount Doom have an entrance in the first place? Why didn't Sauron order a few trolls to seal it up? Instead, the menacing Maiar took zero precautions, allowing a hobbit to stroll into the stronghold, destroying Sauron's essence once and for all.

He could have at least installed a gate or something!
