10 Movie Villains Who Deserved MUCH WORSE

4. Amy Dunne - Gone Girl

Oppenheimer Cillian Murphy
20th Century Studios

David Fincher's Gone Girl is a strange movie in that likeable characters are absolute zero. Ben Affleck's Nick Dunne is an insensitive, cheating scumbag, while Rosamund Pike's Amy Dunne is a cold and calculating manipulator and murderer. Who do you even root for here?

What started as an idyllic marriage soon turned sour, with a little help from a recession, money troubles, and an insensitive husband. It was Nick's infidelity that ultimately pushed Amy over the edge, and while he is unequivocally a bad person, it is Amy that takes the villainous role for this story.

Yes, Nick cheated on her and deserved to be punished, but Amy's plan to frame him for her murder and have him sentenced to death didn't fit the crime. Similarly, Amy's comeuppance for her scheme, as well as murdering Desi Collings (Neil Patrick Harris) was even less fitting.

After seeing Nick on TV playacting as the man she wanted, she essentially returned to him and blackmailed him into living the "perfect" life with her. As said at the beginning of this entry, she was manipulative, she was a murderer, and she knew that she could get away with it. She had a history of doing things like this, and with her getting everything she wanted with no consequences, there was nothing to stop her from doing more of the same.
