6. Arnim Zola - Captain America: The Winter Soldier

His Plan: As his body succumbed to illness in the early 1970s, the legendary Hydra scientist had his consciousness uploaded into a supercomputer in order to remain "alive" and help slowly corrupt S.H.I.E.L.D. from within, all while overseeing the secret Hydra operation "Project Insight", intended to eliminate Hydra's enemies.

What Happened?: Zola's scheme is brought to light when Captain America and Black Widow come across his mainframe in a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility in New Jersey, and in order to stall them, he begins explaining his plan, all while Alexander Pierce launches a missile strike on the facility.

Zola's digital backup is destroyed in the strike, but Cap and Widow just barely escape and manage to eventually foil his nefarious plans.
