3. Walter Donovan - Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade

His Plan: Donovan's plan was simple, to lure Indiana Jones into helping him locate the Holy Grail (which can grant eternal life by drinking from it), by staging his father Henry's disappearance.

What Happened?: Though Donovan made it close to the Grail, he ultimately ended up drinking from one of the many decoy Grails, which ironically grants the drinker instant death as opposed to eternal life, quickly eradicating what what remained of Donovan's life and turning him into a pile of bones and dust.

To rub salt in the wound, Indy even ends up shoving his remains against a wall, and the knight guarding the Grail dryly follows up with, "He chose...poorly." Trying to trick Indiana Jones or mess with his family are both fool's errands, so there's little sympathy here.
