10 Movie Villains Who Wanted To Be Caught

1. John Doe - Seven

The Riddler Paul Dano
New Line Cinema

Some villains on this list didn't make it clear that they wanted to be caught until they had enacted the next part of their plan, and it was too late for the hero to do anything about it. They didn't realise they were playing into the hands of the bad guy at the time.

John Doe (Kevin Spacey) was not one of these villains. While most strategies for getting caught are subtle, the antagonist of David Fincher's Seven walked straight into the police station covered in blood and announced himself as the mysterious John Doe that Detectives Mills (Brad Pitt) and Somerset (Morgan Freeman) were looking for.

After killing five unconnected victims based on the deadly sins, he had two kills and two sins left. This part of his plan required extremely close proximity to Detective Mills, and so he willingly handed himself into police custody before saying he would take Mills and Somerset to the last two bodies, and Mills and Somerset only.

Of course, this was manipulation by Doe, as there weren't any bodies hidden. There was the head of Mills' wife Tracey (Gwyneth Paltrow), soon to be followed by his own corpse when Mills inevitably killed him in a fit of wrath. Thus, the masterpiece was completed thanks to the hot head and predictability of Detective Mills.
