10 Movie Villains Who Were Fatally Miscast

6. Christopher Eccleston - Thor: The Dark World

Eccleston is a very fine actor and he can do villains really well, such as in 28 Days Later and an awful YA adaptation called The Dark is Rising, in which he was easily the brightest spot of the movie. Unfortunately, this villainous role in Thor: The Dark World went disastrously wrong and he turned in the worst performance of his career.

This wasn't entirely his fault. The Dark World is a terrible movie and Malekith the space elf is not only one of the worst superhero movie villains... well, ever, but he doesn't suit Eccleston in the slightest.

Malekith is a very quiet villain with no backstory. Eccleston is not only a character actor who's ill-suited to blockbusters, but he's often at his best when he's able to ham it up more. With Malekith, he is never given a chance to play to his strengths.

Christopher Eccleston compared working on Thor: The Dark World (which he only did for money) to acting with a gun in his mouth, so he was evidently aware of how ill-suited he was to the material.
