10 Movie Villains Who Will Kick Ass In 2018

4. The Supernatural Force (A Quiet Place)

A Quiet Place Emily Blunt
Paramount Pictures

A Quiet Place's villain has been shrouded in secrecy ever since the film was unveiled, but based purely on the information we already know, the threat our protagonists will be facing could be one of the coolest, most deadly movie monsters of 2018.

A Quiet Place follows a nuclear family living on a farm, as they attempt to hide from a mysterious supernatural force that is attracted to sound. This means they can't run, can't cough, can't sneeze, and can't talk. If they make an audible sound, they die.

It sounds like an episode of Doctor Who, but A Quiet Place is backed by Paramount and boasts production values much higher than the BBC drama. And though this villain isn't the kind of in-your-face icon that's plastered all over the marketing, the sheer terror of being trapped by an enemy that can sense your every sound makes this antagonist more psychologically frightening than anyone on this list.

Just imagine what this will put the central family through. They have to be alert every second of every day, they have to watch each other consistently in order to avoid sleep-talking, and they can never live a normal life. Sometimes, it's not physical pain that's the most damaging.

If this foe can rise above its admittedly gimmicky concept and actually cause the family some serious trouble (rather than just being a background threat), then A Quiet Place's baddie could be one that stays with you long after you leave the cinema.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
