10 Movie Villains Who Will Kick Ass In 2018
2. Shere Khan (Mowgli)
Though 2016's Disney-produced Jungle Book was fantastic, nobody ever really talks about that film's rendition of Shere Khan.
Played by Idris Elba, the tiger served his purpose adequately enough and was quite menacing at times, but his stock evildoing was easily overshadowed by the far more memorable likes of Bill Murray's Baloo, or Christopher Walken's King Louie.
Shere Khan will be back on our screens later this year in a completely separate Jungle Book movie with an all-new cast, but this time around, all signs point to this version of the nefarious tiger being a much more standout interpretation.
For one, the movie - officially titled Mowgli - is directed by Andy Serkis, the undisputed king of motion capture. He's responsible for bringing antagonistic characters like King Kong, Gollum and Supreme Leader Snoke to life, or to put it another way, he knows how to make computer-generated villains effective and memorable.
Khan will also be voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, and anyone who's seen The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug knows that the actor can deliver an absolutely chilling CGI villain using a combination of body movements and his wickedly enthralling voice (incidentally, Serkis also helped with the Smaug performance).
And then there's everything we know about the movie as a whole. It's a more personal story about Mowgli himself, which surely means the threat he'll be facing will be given even more care and attention, allowing Serkis and Cumberbatch to create a baddie that transcends just being a 2D obstacle for the hero.
