Warner Bros' horror division is responsible for some of the finest scary movies of the last few years, including the likes of The Conjuring (both of them), Annabelle: Creation, and It. The newest addition to this club - The Curse Of La Llorona - is out in 2019, and by all accounts, its central ghoul is going to be one that keeps you up at night for months after the credits roll.

The Weeping Woman - or, La Llorona - is based on a real-life Mexican folk tale. The story goes that she's the ghost of a woman who lost her children, and as a result, can be heard crying while she looks for them. She's also rather angry (understandably), and subjects nearby people to some misery of their own, and has even been said to kidnap lost children.

Based on the trailer, the movie will follow this character outline closely, with the Weeping Woman seen terrorising a pair of kids hiding inside a car. The ghost's screaming face is pure nightmare fuel, and the fact that she's based on a myth that frightens people in reality just gives the movie a "could this happen in real life?" spooky edge.

Plus, even when Warner Bros' scary films are poor (The Nun) their baddies are the best things in them, so in all likelihood, the Weeping Woman will be another standout horror icon for the studio.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
