10 Movie Villains Who Will Kick Ass In 2019

6. Scar (The Lion King)

The Lion King Scar
Disney

Following on from the success of The Jungle Book, Disney's forthcoming remake of The Lion King will also head down the live-action route, with photo-realistic animals bringing an intensity and darkness to this tale that we've never experienced before.

The devious Scar will be voiced by Chiwetel Ejiofor, a choice that proves Disney are interested in showcasing top-tier acting talent rather than simple star power. Indeed, Ejiofor is hardly a box-office attraction, but his gentlemanly calmness will bring a truly ominous aura to this newest incarnation of the classic villain.

The crucial thing about Scar is that he has to be somewhat likeable - in a "you're such a douchebag, but it's quite amusing" kind of way - and luckily, Ejiofor is the definition of the term. He's also played a good-guy-gone-bad before, with his dark turn in Doctor Strange proving truly engaging to watch when it could so easily have felt forced and out of character.

It also helps that he's got a voice that sounds like caramel, and his buttery-smooth pipes will undoubtedly make this new depiction of everyone's least-favourite lion one for the books.

In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
