10 Movie Villains Who Will Kick Ass In 2019

3. Mysterio (Spider-Man: Far From Home)

Spider-Man Jake Gyllenhaal
Marvel Comics

Over the last few years, the MCU has really taken its villains to another level. After the disappointing likes of Abomination, Yellowjacket, Whiplash, Malekith and Ronan, we've seen Ego, Vulture, Hela, Killmonger, and, of course, Thanos. But the best might yet be to come.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will feature the first big-screen portrayal of Mysterio, a special effects expert who turns to a life of crime (and dons a fish bowl). The character might seem a little goofy at first glance, but with Jake Gyllenhaal's acting ability and Marvel's proficiency at crafting believable, relatable villains, Mysterio will undoubtedly feel less like a cartoony comic-book drawing, and more like a genuine, well-rounded threat.

The intensity and unpredictability Gyllenhaal can bring to his characters (just watch him in Nightcrawler) will be a perfect match for Mysterio's trippy, visually-oriented powerset. There's a madness and a deranged sparkle in the actor's wide eyes, and assuming the fish bowl is off, it's not hard to imagine the young Peter Parker taking one look at this guy and realising he's in way over his head.

As we already mentioned, Marvel has been killing it with their villains lately - and landing Gyllenhaal to play such an intriguing character sounds like another home run.
