10 Movies About Death That Will Change Your Life

4. Stand By Me (1986)

Not only is Stand By Me the finest Stephen King adaptation ever made (spotlessly adapted from the author's novella The Body), it's also one of the greatest movies to take a stab at the power of childhood friendship and how memories keep people alive even after they're gone.

The movie takes the form of a daring adventure out of town, as four troubled boys venture into some nearby woods to look for a dead body. The body isn't the focus, though; the boys' relationship is. During their trip, they help each other come to terms with their flaws and the prospect of growing up.

With heartwarming authenticity and wonder, the movie is told from the perspective of one of the boys all grown up, telling their tale in the wake of his friend's death. It's a startling look at the joys and pains of memory, and cements the idea that no one's really gone so long as you remember them.
