10 Movies That Almost Had Much Better Endings

1. John Connor Becomes A Machine - Terminator Salvation

Warner Bros. Pictures/Sony Pictures Entertainment

The Official Ending: After spending almost a whole movie doing less with the apocalyptic future than James Cameron did in two minutes in the first film, Terminator Salvation's climax actually offers up some interesting ideas. It's revealed Sam Worthington's Marcus Wright was actually created with the explicit intention to bring John Connor to Skynet so the machines could finally kill him (that's a lot simpler than time travel). They almost succeed, but Marcus ends up sacrificing himself, giving the future resistance leader his heart.

The One We Almost Got: An alternate ending had the same idea, but took things further. John Connor was beyond help, but to keep the idea of the great leader alive his skin was going to be transplanted on top of Marcus' machine skeleton, making the central figure fighting the machines a machine himself. But that's not the genius part; a last minute twist would see Skynet take over Connor, killing Kyle Reese, Kate Connor and all the other important resistance players.

Why It Would Have Been Better: It wouldn't have made up for the rest of the film, but having the series seriously shook up would have given the franchise an exciting new direction, rather than leaving it dead in the water awaiting a reboot.
