10 Movies Based On Books That Should've NEVER Been Made
8. The Dark Tower
With a much more darker tone than others in this list, Stephen King's 8 book Dark Tower franchise was adapted to cinema in 2017 with promises for more films to follow in the giant collection. The story follows Jake, a boy who seeks answers for his Father's murder. He discovers the last Gunslinger (Idris Elba) who lives within an Old-West style parallel world and seeks to protect the Dark Tower.
The first film sounded promising however the received box office and cinema audience was lower than average to say the least. The original production actually began ten years before initial release, after changing companies and directors a multitude of times. When the film finally reached the screens, it received only 16 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics rating the ending rushed and the writing (although King's original idea) poor.
In this case, many King book fans were actually happy with the final result and anticipated more for the future, although the material from the books seemed compressed.
It was confirmed for a TV series instead however Amazon pulled the production plug earlier this year.
