2. Brandon Lee Is Killed By A Malfunctioning Prop Gun - The Crow

Another extremely tragic on-set accident occurred during filming of Alex Proyas' The Crow, in which star Brandon Lee was shot dead with a faulty prop gun by actor Michael Massee. Time constraints forced the prop department to improvise their own dummy gun cartridges, though they incorrectly assembled them and the firearms specialist had been sent home early, so when Massee fired the gun, the bullet was discharged and fatally wounded Lee in the abdomen. Given the movie's premise, revolving around a man who is shot to death (as well as being stabbed and hurled out a window) and comes back to life, Lee's death in such a similar manner proved not just tragic but extremely eerie, and sparked up significantly greater public interest in the movie, eventually leading to an impressive and unexpected $144 million box office haul. The spectral quality of Lee's character allows him to inhabit the movie in a uniquely haunting way, and it certainly makes the film a more curious, and obviously more tragic, viewing experience.
