10 Movies We're Embarrassed To Admit Got Us All Choked Up

3. The Hunger Games

I was actually shocked by how desensitized this movie made me become to the idea of children literally killing each other. By the third act, thoughts like "So, when is the next innocent child going to get brutally murdered?" actually entered my head several times. That's not OK. But Hunger Games did that to all of us (I hope), and this is mostly because the movie spends most of its running time emotionally preparing us for the unspeakable violence we are about to witness. That is what made Rue's death so much more meaningful. Amid all of the violence and heart-stopping moments, none of us truly believed that Katniss wouldn't prevail. Sure, Peeta might have kicked the bucket, but no one really liked him after he joined up with the Careers. By the time Rue showed up, most of us in the audience who've actually watched movies before made the prediction that she was going to die a tragic death. I think her death was more powerful among all of the other ones because of Katniss's attachment to the young girl. Watching her sit there and weep over this kid that she was supposed to eventually kill was a flurry of emotional moments none of us were truly prepared for.
