10 Movies Everyone Attributes To The Wrong Director
2. The Nightmare Before Christmas - Tim Burton
Here's a directorial credit that even film buffs screw up on: when it comes to the case of who directed the marvelous animated film The Nightmare Before Christmas, an incredible amount of viewers still believe that it was directed by Tim Burton, given the clear artistic resemblance it bears to his previous works. In fairness, Burton came up with the story and served as a producer, while the film has often been promoted as Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, so it's unsurprising that audiences have made the mistake, even if it meant that director Henry Sellick ended up with very little credit for his magnificent work on the film. Though the finished product obviously bears a huge creative imprint from Burton, Sellick's contributions too often fall upon deaf ears. Sellick himself has said that, " wasn't involved in a hands-on way, but his hand is in it. It was my job to make it look like 'a Tim Burton film'...I don't want to take away from Tim, but he was not in San Francisco when we made it. He came up five times over two years, and spent no more than eight or ten days in total." Sellick has at least enjoyed a career as one of cinema's greatest directors of stop-motion animation since, what with his sublime follow-ups, James and the Giant Peach and Coraline.
