3. Hostel - Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino has proven himself to be an avid film buff over the years as well as a tremendously talented filmmaker, to the extent that he'll often place his stamp of approval on fledgling projects in an attempt to give them a greater audience. He's done this with the Jet Li film Hero, Tony Jaa's The Protector, and Eli Roth's Hostel, the latter of which made great use of the phrase "Quentin Tarantino presents" in its cinema advertising and again on DVD. This is fine for those clued up enough to realise that Quentin Tarantino would never direct a straight-up torture porn flick, but to the average cinema patron, it was simply misleading advertising attempting to make them believe that the guy who made Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill had directed this gorefest. It appeared to work, though, as the movie was a considerable financial hit, leading to a sequel and helping further Roth's career as a respected horror director.
