10 Movies Everyone Attributes To The Wrong Director
4. The Hurt Locker - Anyone Who Isn't A Woman
Ask your average cinema attendee about who directed the Oscar-winning war movie The Hurt Locker, and they're almost certainly going to either reply with, "I don't know", or throw a male name at you, like Oliver Stone or James Cameron. Of course, the movie was directed by Kathryn Bigelow, who has essentially built a career out of defying stereotype and directing muscular action movies that are most typically directed by males, some of her finer credits including Near Dark, Point Break, Strange Days, K-19: The Widowmaker and Zero Dark Thirty. Bigelow's Best Director win for The Hurt Locker made her the first female to ever win the award, and though this certainly drew attention to the movie's authorship, both prior to and since its Oscar glory, many no doubt expect it to be helmed by a man, because of Hollywood's perceived glass ceiling as it relates to female filmmakers, and the fact that so few women direct action movies. She truly is a one of a kind filmmaker.
