10 Movies Everyone Is Embarrassed To Admit They Like

1. The Notebook

Nick Cassavetes' The Notebook is a syrupy, manipulative tearjerker that is well known for reducing cinemas full of women to floods of tears, and though it didn't evoke the same response from me, I can certainly appreciate the film and even say that, for the most part, I liked it. Perhaps I've been worn down on Nicholas Sparks adaptations so much over the years that the original one just seems better by comparison, but really, the film has quite a lot going for it. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, who became an item because of working together on the film, have palpable chemistry and are of course far more talented than most of the people who star in these sorts of films. They play likeable characters, which is a start, as we're able to root for them throughout the journey. Also, the climax, in which the pair reunite as old folk and die in each other's arms, is genuinely rousing, if also a somewhat depressing statement on the inevitability of human existence. Still, it achieves its aims far more honourably than any of Sparks' other adaptations, and as a result, I have to admit that I like it. Which movies are you embarrassed to admit you like?
