10 Movies Everyone Is Embarrassed To Admit They Like

2. Showgirls

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRbUSIRV6i4 Paul Verhoeven really hit a career low with Showgirls, the unintentionally hilarious sex drama that ended up being nominated for a record 13 Razzie Awards, though if nothing else, is certainly not a boring night out at the cinema. Though initially critically reviled, the film has undergone a certain amount of re-evaluation in recent years, becoming regarded as a cult classic in spite of its awful screenplay and ridiculous sex scenes - try watching Saved by the Bell again after seeing Elizabeth Berkeley (that's Jesse Spano) thrashing around in the water with Kyle McLachlan like a dying fish. There's a superbly campy appeal to the film; the gratuitous nudity, and the sheer fun of watching it entirely outweighs how seriously bad it is. Some critics insist that it's actually a hyper-clever satire about the nature of Hollywood's hot young stars, and though I wouldn't go that far, I would agree that the film has more substance than it gets credit for, even if the script is a total mess. Why is it embarrassing to admit I like it? Because that's like voicing my appreciation for the salacious late-night movies Channel 5 used to air, that's why.
