10 Movies Everyone Is Embarrassed To Admit They Like

9. Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMQ-RoCKa6o I would never try to defend Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot as a good film, but like so many entries on this list, it's something I am positively incapable of turning off if it ever appears on TV. Seeing Sylvester Stallone play a burly cop whose mother (Estelle Getty) comes to stay with him and disrupts his life is an absolutely fascinating viewing experience, enormously enjoyable for precisely the reason it's not a very good film - it is the cinematic equivalent of a car wreck. Indeed, it's hard to look away as Stallone throws what little goodwill he had left down the toilet, humiliating himself in this brain-dead comedy that's hilarious for all the wrong reasons. Action stars turning to comedy rarely works, but rarely does it fail in as interesting a way as it does here; it's like a surreal experiment to test what audiences will tolerate, and given that the film still made $70m despite its awfulness, apparently the answer is quite a lot. But I'm no better. I've seen it dozens of times and I'll always watch it when it's on. It entertains the Hell out of me, though even uttering its name in the presence of others is forbidden.
