10 Movie Franchises That Need A Reboot

7. Spawn

Spawn is another blockbuster that should have been a massive hit, if not for the fact that the script was completely inane, squandering its solid production design and visual effects (for the time, at least). Michael Jai White was well-cast in the lead role (pictured above), though some of its odder flourishes - such as incredulously casting John Leguizamo as The Clown - didn't really wash tonally. Given the worthiness of the material - essentially a modern-day take on Faust amid a crime-ridden city - it's frustrating that it didn't get its due, as it reflects so poorly on the source material. However, we'd be willing to give it another shot if a director with some talent was attached, and given that White is still in great shape, they could just re-cast him in the role, even if he's not exactly a household name. Get Guillermo del Toro to direct it, or as that's an unlikely prospect, someone with a similar visual keeness; perhaps Predators' Nimrod Antal, who has experience with both the grotesque and with effects-heavy films. He's also dealt with fanboys before, so shouldn't have a problem bringing this seminal comic book to the screen.
