10 Movies From 2016 That Are Guaranteed To Be Great
7. La La Land
The first of two Ryan Gosling entries on this list, La La Land is touted as being a glitzy, post-modern take on classic Hollywood musicals. Set in the present day, the story follows Sebastian (Gosling), a jazz pianist, and aspiring actress Mia (Emma Stone), as they fall in love, singing and dancing whilst doing so. In a rapid departure from his breakout directorial debut Whiplash, Damien Chazelle can be expected to deliver the goods with La La Land. You have to think that a hot young talent like Chazelle would have to be seriously confident in order to undertake and pull off such an about-face in terms of tone for his sophomore effort, and that amount of confidence is a good sign of quality. Beyond that, we all know what great chemistry Gosling and Stone have after Gangster Squad, so bare minimum it'll be a joy to watch them spark off each other. Keep an eye out for a trailer in the next few months! La La Land is released on 15 July.
