10 Movies From 2016 That Are Guaranteed To Be Great

6. Moana

One of two films being released by Walt Disney Animation Studios this year (the first being Zootopia), Moana bears a particular guarantee of quality for two reasons; first, that it's coming from the same studio that has been on a fair winning streak for a while now, with Wreck-It Ralph, Frozen and Big Hero 6 all being more than well-received; second, that it comes under the stewardship of Ron Clements & John Musker, the directing duo who have been responsible for many of Disney's great animations - like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Hercules. The story follows a young girl named Moana, a natural navigator, as she sets off on an adventure in ancient Oceania, located in the South Pacific. Accompanied by the legendary demi-god Mãui - voiced by Dwayne Johnson, in a casting coup - there's not a lot of information to go on right now, apart from the above image. But it is nice to see some lesser-known cultures get this big of a spotlight, animated adventure comedy or no. With the talent attached, and an original, engaging storyline (written by Taika Waititi, no less), this looks to be the animation to beat this year. Sorry, Finding Dory. Moana is released on 23 November 2016.
