10 Movies From 2016 That Are Guaranteed To Be Great

5. Passengers

Passengers has been one of the most buzzed-about scripts in Hollywood for almost ten years now, first appearing on the 2007 'Black List' of best unproduced screenplays, as voted for by industry luminaries. Finally entering production in September of last year, the sci-fi pic is set to star two of the biggest 'it' actors in the business today - Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. Anybody who has a passing familiarity with either of those two should know that we're in for a fairly electric pairing. The plot follows a spacecraft carrying thousands of people to a distant planet, in the far future. One of the sleep pods malfunctions, with Chris Pratt's character emerging and figuring out that he's got 60 years of loneliness to look forward to before the ship reaches its destination. Thinking 'f*ck that' to himself, he makes the executive decision to wake up Jennifer Lawrence too, because - well, wouldn't you? The quality of the script has spoken for itself; screenwriter Jon Spaihts went on to work on Prometheus, Doctor Strange and the upcoming Mummy reboot because of the strength of Passengers, so that has to count for something. An intriguing premise and a great one-two punch of leading man and leading lady make Passengers one to watch out for. Bonus round: Michael Sheen as a robot! Passengers is released on 21 December.
