4. Midnight Special
Writer-director wunderkind Jeff Nichols has come out swinging in the last few years with the great track record of Shotgun Stories, Mud and Take Shelter, all starring his lucky charm, Michael Shannon. This time around, the director has surrounded Shannon with additional bonafide talent, in the form of Sam Shepard, Adam Driver, Kirsten Dunst and Joel Edgerton. Midnight Special looks to be his most intriguing movie yet, as it follows the story of a father (Shannon) whose son develops special powers, and his attempts to protect said son from wayward government interest. True to form, Driver looks to be filling the bad guy role here, and even if the dynamic duo of Nichols and Shannon weren't involved - seriously, watch Take Shelter - Adam Driver on his own would be a guarantee of greatness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UU_CC81aGM Midnight Special is released on 18 March.
