10 Movies From 2016 That Really Shouldn’t Have Been Boring
6. Hard Target 2
Hard Target was a gloriously silly action vehicle for Jean-Claude Van Damme back in 1993 and marked John Woo’s American debut. It had insanely violent action sequences, hammy villains and Van Damme’s sweaty mullet flopping around in beautiful slow motion; hell, he even punches a snake unconscious.
The arrival of the Van Damme free sequel twenty years later is a curious decision, but the formula of a dangerous man being hunted for sport by evil rich people is easy enough to get right. With this belated sequel, it appears entertainment value was the real hard target, since it’s just a pale rehash with uninteresting heroes and villains, and a profound lack of the style Woo brought to the first one.
Star Scott Adkins does well with the action scenes, but by the end you’ll likely just want your ninety minutes back.
