10 Movies From 2017 That Died At The US Box Office
9. The Great Wall
US Box Office: $45,157,105
In any other year a movie about a mercenary who fights monsters on the Great Wall of China would take multiplexes by storm, but 2017 is an exceptionally odd time and The Great Wall fumbles the ball one time too many to claim the top spot.
Running nearly two and a half hours, the movie was way too long to sit through in the cinema, but at least on DVD you stick around around for the monster fighting stuff (awesome) and make your excuses during all the talky bits (meh). Also, the producers missed a trick by casting Matt Damon instead of Nicolas Cage, whose very presence would’ve guaranteed a movie of epic proportions.
The Great Wall thinks it’s an epic – it is, after all, directed by the great Yimou Zhang, who gave us House Of Flying Daggers and Hero – but it refuses to accept that an audience for this sort of thing just wants two hours of dudes fighting monsters. Perhaps Resident Evil’s Paul WS Anderson could helm the sequel?
