What makes this remake interesting is that development on a Korean language sequel and an American remake are happening alongside each other.

Another foreign film from 2016, Yeon Sang-ho's widely acclaimed zombie thriller is already getting the Hollywood treatment, with producer James Wan of Fast and the Furious and Aquaman fame recruiting frequent collaborator Gary Dauberman to write the script. Dauberman has previously worked with Wan on the Conjuring universe of films for Blumhouse.

While these two are clearly familiar with the Hollywood horror money-making machine, whether this expertise will lend itself to such a heralded source material remains to be seen. New Line have already acquired distribution rights to the film and full scale production is expected to begin soon.
