10 Movies From This Decade That Better F***ing Get Sequels

8. Chronicle

ChronicleThe Pitch: As the sole survivor of the trio of superhero friends, Matt (Alex Russell) continues to hone his superpowers, while having to fend off an equally potent supervillain threat (of some kind - perhaps other students?). Likelihood: Chronicle was one of 2010's cult hits that came out of nowhere, shot on a miniscule $12 million and raking in over $125 million worldwide, giving director Josh Trank plenty of fuel to pursue a sequel. The original movie's writer, Max Landis, was originally signed on to script Chronicle 2, though has since been replaced by an unspecified new scribe. However, the real question mark is Trank himself; he has since landed the Fantastic Four reboot gig, and so that could prove lucurative enough that he wouldn't want to return to something lower budget like Chronicle, even if it was the brainchild project that brought him to the dance. Also, Russell is in no way a bankable star, so the movie would need to recruit a number of young up-and-comers to stand alongside him (as the first film did). Still, there's so much left to explore in this world, and I'd love to see more of it; it's just a case of moving everything into place. 5/10.
