10 Movies It Was Impossible To Dislike

8. Mamma Mia!

I um-ed and ah-ed with myself when it came to the inclusion of Mamma Mia in "10 Movies It Was Impossible To Dislike". After all, musical films are such niche genre; it's rare that they get a positive reception from everyone that watches them. There's just something about this movie, though, that meant I couldn't not include it. It's so incontestably cringey - and it's probably best for everyone if we don't talk about Pierce Brosnan's musical endeavours - but wasn't an ABBA sound-tracked film always going to be so? ABBA are one of those karaoke bands that when it comes to it, every single person knows the words even if they don't know how or where (OR WHY!) they learnt them. It's for this reason I included it in the list. Even the most humbug of people cannot sit idly by when 'Dancing Queen' comes on - at the very least, your foot is going to jerk! Meryl Streep has won awards for her acting, and rightly so. By no means is this her best film, but it was certainly one that made my whole family laugh (I don't think my nine year old brother appreciated her performance in The Iron Lady, somehow). Julie Walters is the jester of the screen, and there's also plenty of eye candy to go around. Colin Firth seems to be a re-occurring individual already in this list and we're only at No. 8, so I apologise about that if you're not a fan. It's got the feel good factor, it's got the beautiful Amanda Seyfried and dishy Dominic Cooper and what's more flares aren't compulsory... therefore, how could you possibly dislike Mamma Mia? (Trust me, I tried to hate it - I really did).
