10 Movies It Was Impossible To Dislike

4. Jaws

Jaws is "that movie" that everyone knows the soundtrack to, regardless of whether or not they've actually seen the film. We'll not talk about Jaws 2, or Jaws 3 (etc.), because that would be painful ... but let's focus on this iconic film that set the ball rolling for summer blockbusters. It may be dated, and CGI has certainly come a long way since, but Spielberg's masterpiece is one that has stood the test of time. You have to appreciate the craftsmanship in this film for it was produced in 1974, when 'special effects' were blue screen model and animatronics were anything but seamless. Creating a great white shark which successfully managed to terrify the audience was no mean feat €“ and yet was accomplished by the relatively unknown Spielberg. This piece of film would help make his name, and has become a classic that resides in most families' film collection. That said, what is great about this film is it doesn't rely on lots of footage of super scary great-white sharks; it's more subtle than that - relying on the human capacity to fear to provide suspense. If you didn't jump at all, then you're probably lying. Spielberg won't deny that had technology been more effective, the shark would get more screen time. But the film works brilliantly as it stands and even if it's not your cup of tea, you have to appreciate it for what it was at the time it was produced. You can't possibly dislike it as it opened a new chapter in the world of cinema.
