10 Movies In The IMDb Bottom 100 Actually Worth Watching

9. Santa Claus Conquers The Martians (#98)

There are many films that somehow manage to be relentlessly entertaining in their badness. Think of The Room, arguably the best bad movie ever made, which has amassed a huge cult following on account of its endless plot holes, poor acting and bewildering script. Santa Claus Conquers The Martians isn't quite as entertaining in its terribleness as Tommy Wiseau's reverse-masterpiece, but it is entertaining - even for a movie that has found its way into the depths of the IMDb Bottom 200, there is something about it. If you're familiar with the movies of Ed Wood, namely that of Plan 9 From Outer Space, then Santa Claus Conquers The Martians will seem familiar; that's to say, in its somewhat sincere attempts to be - at the very least - passable fun, it is endearing. And yet the cast and crew just can't hold the movie together; watching the film is akin to being backstage during a school play gone wrong: you want to help, but at the same time it's... well, kind of hilarious. Everything here is exhaustingly bad, though: the actors, the script, the costumes (oh, God, the costumes), but a lingering sense of sincerity ("C'mon, guys - it's gonna be great!") at least renders Santa Claus Conquers The Martians - for the most part, anyway - bearable.
