10 Movies Interrupted By Horrific Violence In The Cinema

3. The Warriors

A film about street gangs fighting it out in brutal urban combat is as strong a candidate as any for a film which might trigger real life violence, and sure enough, the 1979 movie The Warriors was responsible two theatre-related killings. Members of the black gang known as the Blue Coats clashed with the white gang The Family in a drive-in movie theatre in California leading to the fatal shooting of Family gang member Marvin Kenneth Eller. The following night also in California 18-year-old named Timothy Gitchel was stabbed to death by a gang member. Other deaths occurred in relation to The Warrior outside of the theatre, too - a few days after the California killings a gang got into an altercation with 16-year-old Marty Yakubowicz and stabbed him to death - before the attack one gang member had shouted the line from the film, "I want you!" before plunging in the knife that led to his death. Life imitating art in the worst possible manner.
