3. The Warriors

A film about street gangs fighting it out in brutal urban combat is as strong a candidate as any for a film which might trigger real life violence, and sure enough, the 1979 movie The Warriors was responsible two theatre-related killings. Members of the black gang known as the Blue Coats clashed with the white gang The Family in a drive-in movie theatre in California leading to the fatal shooting of Family gang member Marvin Kenneth Eller. The following night also in California 18-year-old named Timothy Gitchel was stabbed to death by a gang member. Other deaths occurred in relation to The Warrior outside of the theatre, too - a few days after the California killings a gang got into an altercation with 16-year-old Marty Yakubowicz and stabbed him to death - before the attack one gang member had shouted the line from the film, "I want you!" before plunging in the knife that led to his death.
