10 Movies Made For Terrible Reasons

1. To Double-Dip The Final Book - The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2

The early 2010s marked the beginning of a gross trend where movie studios realised they could make more money by splitting the concluding adaptation of a hit novel series into two movies, theoretically doubling their profits.

Warner Bros. did it quite successfully with the final Harry Potter book, and when it came to adapting the last Twilight novel, Breaking Dawn, Summit Entertainment did the very same thing.

Breaking Dawn Part 1 and 2 released almost exactly a year apart from one another, and while largely dismissed by critics, grossed over $1.5 billion combined, surely considerably more than any single final movie would have.

Yet it's painfully clear watching the movies that the filmmakers strained to distend the book into almost four hours of cinematic content.

Part 1 in particular is a leaden, purposeless slog for much of its runtime, and the only reason Part 2 exists at all is because an executive knew they could double-dip the pockets of millions of teenage girls.
