10 Movies Nobody Asked For (That Might Be Great)
8. In A Violent Nature 2
Of all the horror movies released this year, none seemed more like a no-brainer one-off than In a Violent Nature - Chris Nash's subversive, "arthouse" take on the prototypical slasher film formula.
And honestly, given the movie's clear goal of upending the slasher as we know it, the idea of sequelising it into a franchise in its own right almost seems antithetical, right?
All the same, In a Violent Nature 2 was announced this past summer following the first film's success, and while few were actively angling to see more of masked murderer Johnny, the sequel does present Nash with quite the amusing opportunity.
If Nash doubles down on making In a Violent Nature even more of a ponderous, Slow Cinema rendition of a classic slasher franchise like Friday the 13th, he could have a ton of fun slyly satirising the tendency for horror sequels to get bloodier and more nonsensical with each passing entry.
If In a Violent Nature 2 is gorier and sillier than its predecessor but plays it all totally straight by keeping most of the chaos firmly in the periphery, then it could be a genuinely worthy successor.
Here's hoping for even more slow, meandering takes while the meat-sacks are hanging out off-camera.
