3. The Black Phone 2
The Black Phone was a solid supernatural horror flick that didn't really leave much room for a follow-up, what with antagonist The Grabber (Ethan Hawke) being killed at the end.
But because death is only a minor inconvenience in the horror genre, of course Hawke and the rest of the central cast are returning for a sequel.
Plausibly bringing The Grabber back won't be easy without going the prequel route or including The Grabber as a supernatural presence, but given the strong batting average of returning director Scott Derrickson and his regular co-writer C. Robert Cargill, it's easy to have faith in their vision.
Furthermore, Derrickson has steered clear of directing sequels to two of his projects - Sinister and Doctor Strange - in the past, suggesting that he won't commit to helming a sequel unless he's actually confident in the outcome.
With that in mind, it's easier to accept that the filmmaker knows what he's doing, and he'll have a reasonable explanation for how a follow-up to this story can even exist.
