10 Movies Nobody Asked For (That Might Be Great)
4. F1
Racing movies are an incredibly niche genre as it is, and they've not been faring too well theatrically in recent times, so it's tough to be too enthusiastic for an FIA-sponsored, Lewis Hamilton-produced film about the Formula One World Championship that's basically going to be a feature-length commercial for F1.
It doesn't help that the premise, of a retired racer (Brad Pitt) returning to the fold to train a young racing prodigy (Damson Idris), has been done to death in the sports genre.
But on the flip side, F1 is being directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick), and the first teaser trailer at least makes it clear the film is going to rock some utterly majestic visuals. Given that F1 is rumoured to be carrying a $300 million budget, though, it'd be pretty upsetting if it didn't.
Between the splashy production values and starry cast - also including Kerry Condon and Javier Bardem - F1 has the potential to be a real crowd-pleaser even if it's unlikely to be the most original film released next year. Here's hoping.
