10 Movies Not Screened For Critics (That Were Actually Good)

9. Drive Angry

Crank Jason Statham
Lionsgate

You'll know whether or not you'll enjoy this 2011 movie just from a one-line summary of its plot: Nic Cage breaks out of Hell to drive across America with a waitress in pursuit of the satanic cult who killed his daughter and are planning to sacrifice his granddaughter. See?

It's exactly what you would expect, with Cage turning in another raggedly hypnotic performance as he alternately mumbles and over-acts his way through a a succession of gunfights, car chases, sexy bits and supernatural hi-jinks. William Fichtner gives great support as "The Accountant," an infernal agent dispatched to put an end to Cage's rampage.

Would it have performed better if it had been released to critic's beforehand? It's hard to say, but it fits the same profile as many other movies in this list: action-packed, broadly formulaic, light on dialogue and message. Oh, and it has Nic Cage in it. We'll be seeing him again in a moment...

Lee Williams hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
