10 Movies Not Screened For Critics (That Were Actually Good)
7. The Wicker Man
Okay, it's a stretch to say this one is actually good. The original Wicker Man, the 1973 version starring Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward, was great but this remake is far from that. In fact, it's bad. It's horrendously bad. It's so bad that it goes beyond normal definitions of the word and becomes almost a religious experience...
Just as in the orignal, a straight-laced detective investigates a missing girl in a mysterious, pagan community called Summerisle. But that's really where the comparisons end. Nicolas Cage throws himself into the lead role with the absolute enthusiasm he usually reserves for the worst B-movies. He punches girls, steals bicycles and runs down a hill wearing the feet of a bear costume, all the while shrieking and gesticulating with way more commitment than the script deserves. And the script really is a doozy - a hilarious mess of clunky dialogue, cod-philosophy, unexplained occurences and bees. Lots of bees.
So no, this is not a good movie. But it's it's a very enjoyable watch nonetheless.
