Whilst the CGI on Iron Man's suit was necessary to simulate a technology that doesn't exist yet, on the CGI front, this film jumped the shark, went back to the shark, kicked it, jumped over it again and then made love to Michael Bay. I am referring, of course, to the fact that Green Lantern's eye mask in this film was CGI. One question, why? I mean, was it really that cost effective to substitute a green latex eye mask for an effect that doesn't even look real? The CGI tracking on Ryan Reynolds' face here makes him look more like a character in a video game than anything else. It doesn't help that all the wooden acting and the poor dialogue also created the illusion that this was a cheap Japanese RPG from the 90s. Part of me thinks that they actually made the tie-in game for The Green Lantern first and then decided to make a film out of it incredibly quickly, which would explain why they're both absolutely appalling.
