10 Movies Ruined By Fan Overhype

5. The Godfather Part III

Not a single film on this list had a tougher act to follow than The Godfather Part III, which was released more than 15 years after the previous film and had to compete with two predecessors which both won Best Picture Oscars.

Still, with most key cast and crew members returning from the previous films - save for Robert Duvall, due to a salary dispute - fans of the series were giddy at the prospect of Francis Ford Coppola delivering the perfect movie trilogy.

But of course, that isn't at all what happened. Like, at all.

Though nominated for seven Oscars including Best Picture, The Godfather Part III was universally accepted to be a considerable decline in quality from the first two, indulging in more melodramatic storytelling and suffering considerably from Sofia Coppola's Razzie-winning performance as Mary Corelone.

Is it a good movie? Absolutely, especially with Coppola's recent re-cut, but after he delivered dynamite results twice in a row, Coppola's fans got a little too confident in his ability to nail the three-peat so many years later.
