10 Movies Ruined By Their Title

2. Edge of Tomorrow

Edge of Tomorrow is one of the most acclaimed sci-fi films of the last decade-plus, yet you'd barely know it by looking at its box office, given that it substantially underperformed against a whopping $178 million budget.

Many laid the blame at the feet of Paramount for not only poorly marketing the film in general, but insisting upon the title Edge of Tomorrow after getting cold feet about the source novel's title, All You Need Is Kill, amid the belief that the word "kill" would turn audiences off.

Director Doug Liman himself wasn't a fan of the novel's title either and suggested the replacement "Live Die Repeat," which Warner Bros. opted to only use as the film's marketing tagline while sticking with Edge of Tomorrow.

But what does Edge of Tomorrow even tell us? It's about as generic and non-committal a blockbuster movie title as there is - a vague trio of words that an executive inexplicably thought sounded cool.

Following the film's disappointing box office performance, Paramount decided to emphasise "Live Die Repeat" more in the movie's home video marketing, to the extent that it was even renamed to "Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow" on some digital platforms.

Sadly, had Paramount opted for a more interesting title from the outset, we may well have had two or three sequels already.
