Granted, before Jay, Silent Bob, and Bethany got stranded on the side of the road, Jay didn't know how to drive stick€”but at the same time, he didn't know what stick was! If he hadn't had the unfounded confidence to at least try driving a car, the story wouldn't have had the chance to unfold in the way that it did. Who knows what consequences would have resulted from even a slight amount of humility on Jay's part? We definitely would have at least missed out on a classic joke. There you have it. We'd all better pay more attention! Manual transmission is in fact more than an affirmation of coolness, or a means of compensating for something. As movies show us, even though the existence of automatic transmission may cause us to be distracted, stick shift must at some point inevitably become an absolute requirement for our everyday survival. So what about you? What are some other movie situations where knowing stick was absolutely required for success?
