10 Movies You Shouldn’t Claim Are Your Favourite On A First Date
9. Shame (2011)
Any feature length movie made by Steve McQueen is tough to watch. Hunger is a 90 minute movie with only 17 minutes of talking and then the rest of the film is watching Bobby Sands starve to death and prison guards mopping up urine. 12 Years a Slave is the harrowing tale of the brutality suffered by slaves and is completely haunting. Yet, Shame seems like the more inappropriate movie to mention as a favourite on a first date. The film is about Brandon, a good-looking man living in New York City with a pretty serious addiction to sex. Things get more complicated when his sister, Sissy, arrives unannounced. From the outset, it is clear that both Brandon and Sissy are very troubled individuals. The movie is bleak and a bit too real that it makes the viewer want to shower after watching it. Not some sexy shower either; like no amount of soap will ever make you feel clean again type of shower. So as a good rule of thumb, its probably not a good idea to talk about how much you love a movie about a sex addict that is hailed for its gritty realism.
