10 Movies So Awful They Were Pulled From Theatres

7. The Swarm (1978)

Seeking Justice Nicolas Cage
Warner Bros.

The Swarm was one of dozens "man versus nature" horror movies that were released after the massive success of Jaws. Instead of a shark, the menace of The Swarm is millions of killer bees. Surprisingly, the cast includes actors all known for much better work: Michael Caine, Richard Widmark, Richard Chamberlain, Olivia de Havilland, Slim Pickens, Fred MacMurray, José Ferrer and Henry Fonda.

Their paychecks were big enough to make them willing to work with millions of live bees.

Critics were baffled at seeing so many big names in such a terrible movie, and audiences stayed away in droves. Though precise budget details aren't available (reported estimates range from $11 million to $21 million, mostly all spent on bee wrangling), the movie slumped bad enough that it was pulled from U.S. theatres after only two weeks. Producer/director Irwin Allen regarded as the worst movie he had been involved with.

A remake was reported in the works back in 2010, but thankfully producers changed their minds.
